Subject: Re: Kelderman Corn Reel- Hydraulic lift

South Georgia
We have hydraulic cylinders on ours. Nothing fancy, just a pair of 2"x8" cylinders in the place of the chains. Had the local machine shop install them, but basically he just made welded an ear on the back of the head for the bottom of the cylinder, and cut off the tab that the chains hooked to on the back of the reel's arm, and welded an ear on there. The cylinders are parallel, not in series, so it doesn't rise evenly. I only put it all the way up, or all the way down. If you do it like I did it, you can probably use 6" cylinders and be fine, the 8" ones have the 'fingers' up higher than the top of the cab, with the reel up and the head up.

Sorry, I don't have pictures. One of these days, I'll get a camera...
