I haven't dug into it much, but I haven't felt that Skype is appropriate for our five person household. Most of our calls are local and not even really that many. The kids spend more time on Messenger than on the phone.

I am considering our ISP's internet based phone service. My understanding is we get a network router that has a phone jack output. Done right, I understand that we can still use the phone jacks in the rest of the house by backfeeding this output into the house wiring.

We had some dsl trouble some time ago, so I'm making sure we can go a good period of time trouble free before I make the switch. Bell Canada has screwed with some rates just enough that I likely will make the switch by Christmas. I expect to save around 25% if I do make the switch; and get more services at the same time.
