I suppose it could be the cable or worse one of the connectors lose.
Also ideally try an alternative phone/tablet.  
Getting feed briefly suggests to me that the system is basically working, but good points made about updates potentially messing things up unless they are all done (or none done!)

Won't suit everyone but mine runs with a dedicated Android tablet - Nexus 7 - and nothing is allowed to update unless I OK it.
