Yes, I'm confident you could have found it with XT or similar type sensor...probably in short order - if it was above ground.
The XT measures temperature differences at 1/10 degree F. Your point about differences in "warm-up" is "right on".
It also employs the option of selecting one of 13 different color-ramping palettes. I probably would have selected the palette meant for your situation.
Keep in mind the best XT has a resolution of 640 x 512 which is not especially high compared to other drone cameras.
In this particular case, I would have probably flown at a height to compensate for the lower resolution.
