swMN		I've used solar salt for the softner, put too much on a couple years ago, ground gets really hard, had a short crop that year , haven't used anything last two years. MIL has her patch tilled every year, seems to stay clean enough for the season, a good friend of mine uses Roundup early, has also cut the spears below ground level then use Roundup, asparagus is pretty tough and rooted two to three feet deep.
