With proper funding and suitable motivation, the scientific method can be used to support most any agenda. If you believe companies provide grant money to graduate students working on their doctoral thesis just so the thesis can reflect negatively on that companies product, you better give your head gear an enema! Lots of research bought and paid for by less than neutral benefactors.
