If you do want to use the JD rowcommand clutches you need a planter with Seedstar 2 (not seedstar Gen II), a 1800 or 2600 display, receiver, and swath control pro activation.

I would not doubt it if other companies figure out how to control the Deere clutches. I would think that there are too many patents for Deere to design their own clutch so they're probably using something like a Warner Electric wrap clutch, which would then in turn mean the operating characteristics are public information. From the pictures on the internet, it appears as if there is a CAN module linked to each row clutch and from what we're seeing the GPS companies do (i.e.- Leica), Deere's CAN messages can be emulated.
