I have found it hard also to get a good digital OTA signal- Good coax, excellent connections, and minimal splitting is very important. Even with that, I had to install a (cheap $20) inline amplifier to get the reception desired. I'm about 50miles away from transmitters and still get rain fade with the antenna.
