The size race goes way back. Ford pickups increased in size until the early 80's when Ford introduced the small ranger, and basically just reverted to the 1948 size. The compact size didn't stay compact either. Other than being 3" narrower, a new Colorado is as large or larger than a 73-87 chevy k10.
