I wouldn't worry about a 5 acre field but I understand your concern in the land of corn.
Just go for it, make him happy, fertilize according to soil test, rotate varieties and chemicals.
There are continuous soybeans near me that have been so since soybeans were planted here. In the 50's? I think.
