Yorkshire UK | The regular maintenance tasks on the Phantom 1 and 2 variants were more complicated and involved hooking to a computer. With the current versions this is all app based. The range of the older ones is comparatively disappointing, you will start losing signal soon after 1000 feet in anything less than ideal conditions.
On the plus side the standalone GoPro can be taken off and used elsewhere (if it was included?) and presumably the lower price was attractive so less disastrous if you had an unfortunate incident. The range is still adequate and gopro video is pretty good. Biggest thing missing is probably the live video feed which was technically difficult and costly add-on until the Phantom 2 Vision came out.
In short, the P3 range is much better, especially the Advanced knocks everything before into the long grass. Even if the old set up is half the cost it's not really worth it unless you spot some specific use for the more limited abilities. The ten batteries is probably rather too many since they need a degree of maintenance. I suspect some of them will be already in rapid decline. Tech move on fast. |
