My opinion is that if she doesn't want to shoot much in practicing, she should carry a revolver.  They almost fool  proof.  But if she shoots enough to be comfortable with a semi, then go for it.  Personally, anything I carry is loaded so I don't have to worry about the slide anyway.  Just pull the trigger.  A lot of semi's have a decocker on them so it's pretty easy to carry loaded as it takes a fair amount of pull to actually fire it so accidentals should be non existent.
