Camrose, Alberta | When I calculate the high range of those numbers Gerald posted I come up with $24/ton for the nutrient value of the straw. That is based on the fertilizer prices I paid for this spring (2008). If I expect to pay double those prices for 2009 I think I need $48/ton for the straw, just dropped on the ground, baling would be on top of that.
In our area many cow/calf guys have sold out in the last year and many of them have straw bales still in their yard. I think that would be the best buy for guys looking for straw.
I think the straw chopper will be staying on the combine this fall. | |
