NW Washington | Most of the wheat grown in the PNW is soft white wheat and some years ago wheat breeders at Washington State University developed a strains of "semi-dwarf" wheat that will stand up and not lodge even with 100 bu/ac plus yields. More work has been done by the breeders at WSU, U of Idaho and Oregon State for new and improved wheat varieties that work in both dry land and irrigated situations in the PNW.
Semi-dwarf wheats made a significant difference to wheat growers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. | |
