Subject: RE: s670 with 16 row corn head

Nashville, IL
I'd say go for it. We run a 18 row 20" folding head on a 9670sts. Was told by many that it wouldn't work. Was told I'd have to run 1 mph or so to let the combine do its work. In 200 bu corn I run 3.5-4 mph. I have no problems. Have ran it 2 years now in some pretty nasty hills and mud. Neither is fun, but it is doable. Couldn't do it without our grain cart though. 1400 bushel cart and some days I need 2.

The combine will handle it I'm sure. We just have 2 9670s, but the axles and final drives are the same. We had a JD tech look into it. I adjust my speed to keep the bu/hr in the range that is acceptable. Seems we do real good at 32-3600 bu/hr. Some will probably say that that is pushing too hard, but I can tell you my fields are cleaner than where the neighbor ran his 8 row on a s670. Adjust the machine right and slow down a bit from an 8 row and you will be fine. I couldn't reach max capacity in 2nd gear with an 8 row.
