Subject: Re: Too late for beans?

We put in some dc beans today. Hoping to plant some more if we can ever get the weather to cooperate to finish cutting the wheat.

Last month I would have said anything after July 10th would have been too late for dc beans.I pushed that thinking back to the 12th the other day & now am thinking the 15th. Whether they make anything or not depends upon the rest of the summer & this fall. At least having enough moisture to get them up isn't a problem. All depends upon the growing season & whether we have any early or late frost.

If nothing else they would be a great source of a green manure crop if plowed under early. Did that several years ago on a field of dc beans that it was apparent that they weren't going to develope in time for a crop. Made a big difference in that field for several years.
