I always figure the carry in the market between harvest and June, which on average is $.40 on corn.  Then you do have a little basis gain (maybe), and your bin is always open to dump into at harvest and no lines, which means just about everything to me.  Then if you are gutzy like last year and hold it from fall till summer it turns into about a $4.00 margin which when building a bin for around a buck a bushel you kinda get it paid for in a big hurry.  When I build I usually figure a 4-5 year payback which includes interest and a little extra trucking and some electricity and insurance.
