We use quite a bit of gypsum to break the sodium loose in the soil so we can leach it away. Our well water has enough sodium in it to eventually destroy the structure so the water won't perclate any more. it's amazing what an application of solution grade gyp will do for water infiltration. When the calcium breaks off the sulpher, the sulpher will lower the Ph in our soils but not a lot, we apply sulphuric acid to do that. it takes both to keep our soil takeing water, and keeping our nutrients available.
