Bob,
Every once in a while when MS updates my XP ProSP2 the sound goes with it. I learned to just restore the computer and live with it. I finally got so fed up with it that I just turned off the updates. That was happening to 2 of the 4 computers in the house. The other two seem to be surviving it!
