Subject: RE: Welding on a hydraulic cylinder

central - east central Minnesota -

cnj4bucks - 4/24/2015 13:20 I built a tree puller a few years ago and would like to put a shield on the hydraulic cylinder to protect the hydraulic hoses. I was wondering if it was OK to weld on the cylinder. I would think I would want to remove the cylinder and empty out all the hydraulic fluid. Also need to make sure I am as far away from orings and seals as possible. Any advice or hints would be appreciated. Jeff Edit: It is a welded cylinder not tie rod style

I'm of the opinion, you do not want the protection bracket welded to the cylinder anyway . . .. .  It needs to protect the cylinder, so bracket should be separate of the cylinder and welded off the puller frame somewhere. That way you get True protection for the cylinder. If the protection is welded to the cylinder, the trees or brush could stress the protection bracket and still wreck the cylinder . . .. . .

My 2¢
