I think you are on the right way: it's in a stressy season that strengths and weaknesses show up. That said, do you have damage caused by animals? Boars and deers come to mind but your situation may vary. Also, if you planted several varieties, some may have better resistance.
So, yes, I think you are right, but confirmation from several years observation might be better.
