These buildings and bunks look awesome! Where do I start with planning etc...?
Right now we are running 500 pairs with feeder calves taken to 1080 and 1280. We have 12 yards, split by 3 driveways, with 300' of concrete fence line bunk per yard. Covers 20 acres plus access to 300 acres of stalks adjoining.
Would you ever put the building over the existing driveways? It would get pretty wide. How much would you enclose it?
Only for feeder calves? How many calves per square foot/building? Can they go in and out whenever they choose? Do you sort into uniform groups early?
Sorry for all the questions but I don't know much. I've torn down 12 barns of all sizes on this farm and I need to either replace them or sell out. In the huge blizzard of '66, our neighbor lost 200 head. We were able to shut every animal inside and never lost one. I worry about animals outside in North Dakota Blizzards.
