First of all, I say do what you want to do for your own reasons. I'm sure there will be an education switching breeds, but maybe you've btdt before. Only thing I can say about steins is that there is usually a pretty good supply of calves to feed. From reading your post, it sounds like you're getting them at a bargain? Why on earth would you want to stray from that good deal unless you can source coloreds for cheap in your area?

I guess I feed Holsteins because they're something I grew up around and I know the kind of care they require. I've seen both lose a lot of money and make a lot too. I've always joked that with a stein, you know you're getting junk, and what you're really trying to do is make something out of nothing. On the flipside, I've heard of colored feeders that haven't even had to treat one in a group before they left for the packer! I'd be the guy that had the trainwreck if I ever tried "good" cattle! lol
