NS Canada | I think I got to a point where they were too small for my winters. Even being fed well I just didnt like the way they wintered, and then popped a calf in the spring and were behind the 8 ball from the start. I'm thinking these were 1000 pounders or so. One of the 14mo heifers I had calve was in that 700lb range, and it was way too small for my liking. I cant imagine a cow that tops out at 750. A good calf would have to lay down to suck her.
I've got 2 monsters, prob in the 1800lb territory and they look giant next to some of the other small young stock, and despite being tame cattle, they're just too big to work with and leaves too big of a size difference in handling facilities and stuff. I'm thinking I wanna be in the 1200- 1400 mature range, with good breeding behind them. Which is where most are starting to land (breeding can always improve though)
