I would hope that everybody fries turkeys outside, unless you have one of those new indoor fryers, or want to catch something on fire. LOL

The instruction book for my fryer says to leave the lid off. We don't really have any leaves around at this time of year, so I've never had a problem with anything falling in ours. I thought the lid was more for when you boiled crab or lobster or something like that in water. I've never done anything but turkey on ours, so I just leave the lid in the house.
