Starbuck Manitoba Canada
I could/will go skating on the river by my place within a few days. If the forecast is correct I could drive my 3/4 ton on the river in less than two weeks. Without very much snow cover the ice will be two feet thick, or more by Christmas.
Many years ago we use to cut ice for summer fishing and for our Beer gardens to cool the beer in a horse troff. We would cut it then leave it outside to get real hard/cold. Then a few weeks later put it in a shack and cover it with sawdust. We were up north fishing and I chipped some off with a knife, it was still so hard I cut myself when I went to pick up a small piece. Try wrapping your head around that!

And thats why we Canadians come down to your southern areas every winter.
