| Just my personal WAG (which is quite worthless), but I don't believe the corn average will break 170.
I thought for some time that southern Illinois and similar growing regions might really kick in some fantastic yields with late season abundance of water, but it doesn't sound like that is happening. The better dirt farther north has done what it always does in years of too much water, the low black stuff suffers from saturation and lowers the big averages.
Surprisingly, the only time we had waiting lines at our elevators in my area was during the half-priced drying offered early in the season.
My area had newspaper articles pre-fall that forecast yields of 300+ bpa. In actuality we had VERY good yields for land that is fertilized for 180 bpa potential and far more realistic I might add. But our averages are far from what was forecast by crop tours earlier this season. JMHO | |
