Sandy Hook, MB

ISUAgBusiness - 11/4/2014 12:02 In Iowa and most counties in Minnesota (unless those exempt by written agreement) silage corn is not insurable. It can be planted for grain, insured, and then chopped for silage, but not insured as corn silage. That's why the corn is appraised as grain out of the field. I'm guessing in MB, silage corn is insurable...

Hello ISUAgBusiness

Here, that would be like having crop insurance for grain corn, but deciding to harvest it for silage instead. Because the crop is insured as grain corn, adjuster would come out to the field before harvest, or representative strips would have to be left unharvested so that grain yield of the crop can be determined if it was harvested as the intended (& insured) grain corn crop. It's called "Alternative Use".
