Are they getting tetanus soon after castration? Covexin contains a tetanus toxoid and it takes a long time to build any immunity from it.
I lost a steer from it last year and that was the first case of it ever here. This year every calf I have got a plain old tetanus shot (antitoxin) at vaccination time. It's a really cheap shot for the insurance.
