Ridgway, IL | What was the moisture coming in? How long did it take to feed the load?
Last summer, I fed a lot of gluten that was 50% mst approx coming in. If I fed a load within a week, I would be within 1k lb on the net weight.... That would be subject to quite a bit of variability based on the weather. When it was hot/dry outside, the shrink would be more... But the feed would be drier... So really I don't know how much true feed shrink there really was... I chalked it up to evaporation.
Seems like wdg has more potential shrink because of the moisture content. As long as I feed the loads within a couple weeks though, I don't notice much mold or visual quality loss of the feed.
I haven't been monitoring it recently though... The evaporation can sure make it difficult to properly figure feed conversions... And would make billing a custom feeding customer a challenge. I mean to say, I haven't been comparing my feed sheets to my load tickets of feed
