Why do you think that hft's don't trade grains on globex? They certainly do and account for a significant percentage of daily volume. There's absolutely no rule against hft's trading on globex and they are quite active. In fact the CMEGroup built a co-location center specifically for hft's. It's larger than 6 football fields.
