Eastern Half of Kansas | Standard operating procedure around here is if she or it isn't bothering anything, gather first time you set up pens in the pasture or have your cattle up and caught. Often times that is when you gather at the end of season.
We had some what I would call city folks buy a pasture next to one we own, they had a cow get over, we told them no big deal, we'll catch it when we wean calves. Never heard much more about it. Long story short, when both of us were burning next spring, we found where the 3 year old 48" wolven fence was cut right behind the butt post and half @$$ tied back together. Neighbor lady was the first one found after seeing that and she got unloaded on and offered to pay for the repair and she did.
One thing I'm saying is it works both ways, you have ET cows next to them, sounds like you have good cows and future calves. Don't get unhung up on her being in there a couple months, drop her in his pasture or tell him to come get her from your pens.
