Ridgway, IL | Thought I might post a few more of calves on rye grass. This was seeded aug 30, following soybeans. There are some volunteer beans along with the rye grass. Appears to me, the calves much prefer the grass to the beans. We strung up a 2 wire hot fence, with a 7 joule dc charger. I ended up dividing this 80ac into 2 40ac sections. There is an old irrigation well, that I am pumping water out of, though they don't seem to drink very much.
I'd guess the average height of grass to be 12-15" where I irrigated early on.
Anyone care to guess what they will gain on this over 120-150 days of grazing?
I read this article from miss state showing possible gains of around 3lb if I read it correctly?
