N FLA | Its a real mixed bag here john. Many are like this pic, cows I bought open last winter for $4-500, they bred in January and February and are just calving now. Others I bought heavy bred in March through May and have big calves now. Then this summer I bought a dozen or so pairs because I thought it would give a quick return on my available feed. The pair in the pic was 1050 this summer. After that I've bought heavy breds and 0.10 is in the ballpark, but I have a table I use. Basically 1.30 for 8m bred and 0.05 less per month. I'm trying to buy cows and pairs that will rebreed when I turn bulls in January to May. I'll sort through and have short bred cows left to utilize my grass fields in summer. I probably only bought 40 that I would call my 2015 crop.Rest are laggards from last winter and spring.
I heard yesterday some Central Florida report that 350 lb calves are higher per head than 450. Its going to take a portable corral and day labor to come off this field. Then I will finally make some sales. I've only sold about 3 calves. I sold open cows this summer.
