NE Iowa | 6 weeks before first calf is due the cows get Guardian (scours)
At birth calves get:
- 3cc of Bo-Se
- Immunoboost
- Vitamin A&D shot
- Bulls get banded
Cows before going to pasture get:
- Poured with gen. Ivermectin
- Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 (5 way respiratory)
- 7 way clostridial with pinkeye combo
- Reprostar VL5 (5 way lepto with Hardjo-Bovis & vibrio)
- H. Somnus (either Somnu-Shield or Somnubac)
At the same time the calves get:
- 7 way clostridial with pinkeye combo
- Bovi-Shield Gold 5 (5 way respiratory)
- Poured with gen. Ivermectin
- 2 fly tags
- Compudose implant in steers and Ralgro in Heifers (safe for replacements)
When the calves get home from pasture or 2 weeks prior to weaning they get:
- 7 way clostridial
- Bovi-Shield Gold 5 (5 way respiratory)
- Nuplora PH (Pasturealla)
- MpB Guard (Mycoplasma Bovis)
At weaning calves get:
- Inforce 3 (intranasal respiritory)
- Poured with gen. Ivermectin
- Implanted with Encore (except rep. heifers)
- Heifers saved for replacement get Reprostar VL5 (5 way lepto with Hardjo-Bovis & vibrio)
At preg check time cows get:
- Poured with gen. Ivermectin
- Those preg with first calf get an initial dose of Guardian (scours)
Seems like a lot but always a believer in preventative medicine. Total cost for all of this is around $20 each for the cows and $12 each for the calves. Those prices are based on buying from online animal supply places and administering the shots myself. | |
