western NY | My grandpa bought a NH76 back in 1948 I have the bill of sale. $2580 for the baler and another $910 for 60 bales of twine and $375 for a Sam Mulkey elevator. I always thought that the twine was sort of high priced but, I guess it was in short supply at the time and that may account for why the baling charge seems high. I know they did a lot of custom baling around this area but have no idea what they charged. That old baler is still sitting in the woods, when I was a kid it was inside and perfact shape. Wish we would have left it inside because I'd love to be able to bale a little with it or one like it.
They also talked about how hard it was to get started when it was hot. I was told they would take the drive belts off the flywheel and belt it to the tractor and engage the cluch to get it started. They also had a Case combine with a Wisconsin that was hard to start. | |
