West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge

There is a very steep ridge just west of where the picture was taken, something about that landscape just causes the hail to drop, it was the exact same pattern last year, in 3 of the last 4 years there was big hail damage there( the 4th year it was wind damage instead..)  After inspecting the rest of the crops yesterday, there was negligible damage anywhere else.

Last years last hail storm( there were 3, starting in early June) was slightly later than this, one Invigor canola field was in full flower, probably starting to slow down, beat it back to green and it recovered, flowered till the end of August and was the best crop ever for this farm.  RR canola a 1/4 mile away hardly made another flower after the hail.  Unfortunately, the stuff in the picture is RR, not Invigor.

On a positive note, we desperately needed the moisture.  We have had a total of .18 inch since mid June with record heat.  got .7 yesterday.
