You are right about the margin calls. If the price of corn goes to $7.20 you will be making $15,000.00 in margin calls but at the same time the corn that you own or are growing will also go up in price. If you have half of your crop contracted every time you get a margin call your net worth will have gone up the same amount of your margin call. If you take a position on the board it is very important than your banker understands futures and the way the market works. If the market goes down you will be able to take money out of your account. If corn goes to $3.20 you will be able to take $5,000.00 out of your account and when you get out of your position you will be able to take that original 33 cents of margin money back out.
