My wife had wanted a milk cow for years as we were somewhat uncomfortable with commercial milk, so in March I bought her a Jersey heifer. It calved about 2 weeks ago and so now she's milking. We are doing "share milking" where you share the milk with the calf. Right now we're still milking once a day but fairly soon we will go to milking as milk is needed and eventually we'll have to pen the calf up the night before milking. We're getting 2 gallons a day and still plenty for the Benny the calf. Took a few days to get good with the milker but we got it. Wife has been making butter, cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc with all the extra cream we are getting and fortunately all 3 kids came home in the last few days, so they each went home with a couple gallons of milk. In March when I bought Jersey a few people said now everyone's wife is going to want a milk cow. LOL.
