Subject: RE: Sorghum sudan grass question

Sudan grass will yield around 1.5 tons DM per acre per cutting. If your wanting to make dry hay you better have several days of good sun cause it is hard to dry down like the others were saying. The new brachytic dwarf sorghum (9302) from Alta Seeds is designed to make dry hay with you just have to cut it at around 28" while the stems are still little. Sorghum sudan will yield about the same if you cut on a 30 day cycle. You can let sorghum sudan get taller and run a longer cycle to get more yield without hurting the quality a lot.
