California/Oregon | Not exactly the same thing but welding safety related.
40 years ago I was a welder in a starch plant. I was given the assignment to rebuild all the pumps. During the process, using nickle rod in an un-vented room, I became poisoned by the gas. Being young and indestructible I keep at it for two days. The next night I couldn't breath and almost died. Took two weeks of recovery and I have a permanent scar on my lungs (fortunately it has never become cancer....yet). I also have COPD from it. Even now I have a difficult time around any welding fumes. ALWAYS, ALWAYS vent.
As far as welding boxes and containers I always vent them some way too. Never had anything blow in 50 years of welding.
