(WCIA) Glidden, IA | More efficient use of the 32 plus it's banded and we can use less. This field has had 8" of rain since planting and since we use 32 for weed and feed up to 50% of the nitrogen is gone due to this rainfall and thus why we don't put it out plus I get a good look at replant and weeds and overall crop progress. This trip doesn't take long. Our tests have shown that a split application pays big 60% of the time, breaks even 20% and doesn't pay 20% due to dry cycles over a 10 year period. Plus nitrogen use peaks at tassel so every minute you can wait gets it closer to that time. Just have to get started a little early to make sure you can get it all covered before it gets 24" tall. With rain chances and waiting for fields to dry plus breakdowns I chose to start a few days early. Next week it will be go time! If we knew what was coming that would help a lot!
