Missouri | A young family member had their bottle calf come down with what can only be described as Polio. It got bad, real bad for ~12 hours, and she hit death's door step. Having raised probably ~50 bottle calves I gave it a 0% chance of living, but somehow the thing has pulled through with some serious TLC. I've tried everything and can't get the thing to relearn how to create a suction to nurse from the bottle again yet. It's up and walking around, appears to have full vision again, and bawls when hungry, but it is still grinding it's teeth and can't seem to figure out how to create a suction. It had not taken to feed or a bucket before the sickness and appears far from the transition now. I'm afraid the damage is permanent but I also thought the little critter was a gonner several days ago... Any ideas on how to help it get back going again? |
