Think of it as if you had to pay a truck an extra 50 miles. Hopper rates currently in ND/SD/MN are $2.50/mile. That's an extra $125. You really have to know to the penny what it costs you per mile to do the trucking yourself. You're breaking even if it costs you $1/mile. If you're hauling to an ethanol plant it might be worth looking into backhauling someone's DDGs.
