I creep feed and consider those feeders to be investments, not just money spent.

To the OP, we sometimes buy a couple bags of calf starter pellets.   This is steamed grain soaked in molasses.    Plus, we do throw a little corn on the ground towards the center of the creep cages where the cows can reach in.
