it probably even COULD be done, if someone invested the money required.
The british/french Eurotunnel celebrates it´s 20th anniversary this year...
There is a regular freight train connection from China to germany, the tracks exist long since, but I guess organizing the trip through Kazakhstan and Russia still is a major undertaking.
