According to the 'Mr. Fixit' man on WGN Saturday mornings, you don't want to paint a deck, you need to stain it with a pigmented stain. Paint sits on the wood and will peel; a stain will penetrate into the wood and won't peel. He seems to favor the new formulation of Cabot stains. I'd prefer the semi-transparent over the opaque stain because I'd like to see some wood grain. The deck restore material (I've seen only the RustOleum product) is very thick and seals over a lot of flaws (not just blemishes) in aged wood.
