I had a 5000 macdon and I'm sorry but that thing was the biggest piece of junk. Even the macdon area rep said they were a joke. We bought a NH 1475 and just love it. Even the older ones are really good and inexpensive. I found that drying time was cut in half with the NH.

You must have either got a lemon or the previous owner abused it.I owned a 5000,5010 and 2 5020,and the 5010 was the only one i ever had to fix and it needed a new bearing on the end of one of the rollers and thats cutting 1500 acres of alfalfa a year. What i find with the 1475 18' the pump doesn't have enough oil capacity to run the machine at capacity, instead you have to slow down so the machine can keep up,they run the same pump on a 18' as they do on a 14'.Also how did you get the curing time to be cut in 1/2 with the Nh,did you buy it with optional chevron rollers?I know with the rubber rollers that come with the machine from the factory, there is a extra day curing time over steel rollers.
