We have several around here now. They have cell phones, pickups and trailers for their business. They hire drivers, though. I've seen them drive tractors and forklifts, etc on the road. They still use horses and buggies and bicycles, too. Hard to figure out what's accepted and what isn't.

As another poster indicated, it's up to the local bishop. "Here", they can't own the wheels on their job trailer, but they can own the trailer. They can't own a cell phone, but their drivers own them, and they use them. If they are working for a farmer, they can drive his tractor.

There is a cabinet shop not far from me...that shop uses all hydraulics to run everything...pretty interesting, but I bet pretty expensive. Most carpentry shops use line shaft drive systems.

And the air powered deep well submersibles are interesting...along with the kerosene water heaters.

In some cases, it appears to be quite expensive to be simple.
