Spiral staircases are anything but practical, and most are less than safe. How do you move a couch up a spiral staircase? If the steps are spaced properly for the outer perimeter, they are surely too steep and don't meet code in the center.

I don't really give a **** about code or practicality. All I want is a simple inside stair case to go from my garage to the living area. For the couch, I can either bring it up the other stairs or through one of the many large windows using the forklift. And as per your latter comment, I grew up in a old farm house with narrow steep steps and never had a problem.

Sorry for the rant, but getting tired of the idiotic building codes.
